GABIN 118: SEVEN WAYS TO SAY "JE T'AIME JEAN GABIN"

Thwarted by COVID in 2020, MCP executive director Don Malcolm waited for another chance at a spring festival celebrating the birthday of French cinema legend Jean Gabin (born May 17, 1904). And now—at last—the time is here!

An anchoring presence in Don's THE FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT festivals, Gabin has much more to offer than the 10-12 films he's known for internationally. And GABIN 118 (2022 minus 1904...) brings seven handpicked rariti+es into the spotlight, showcasing Gabin's mysterious, magical screen presence along with the chemistry he achieved with a bevy of different leading ladies.

It's an incredible opportuntiy to see really rare, fascinating films featuring France's enduring cinema icon across thirty years of his incomparable career!

And what a group of ladies they are! From Josephine Baker to Ida Lupino; from Michèle Morgan to Mireille Balin; from Françoise Arnoul to Marlene Dietrich—Gabin shows us so many facets of his allure with women and his encounters with their infinite complexity.
