TROIS JOURS À VIVRE / THREE DAYS TO LIVE 2:00
Before making it big, Lino Ventura played heavies and sidekicks—but always with a little something different. In TROIS JOURS À VIVRE, this is definitely the case—he plays a hit man who takes umbrage for being singled out for a murder he didn't commit!
The man doing the accusing is the versatile Daniel Gélin, whose range was such that he could play parts American audiences would associate with Dustin Hoffman on one end, and John Garfield on the other. Here he is more Hoffmanesque, playing a callow, ambitious actor who seizes on his notoriety as a witness to murder in order to advance his career. His girlfriend (Jeanne Moreau, in one of a dozen noirs she appeared in before coming the doyenne of the Nouvelle Vague) isn't so sure that it's such a good idea, and she will eventually go to great lengths in an attempt to save him from a deadly fate...

LES AMANTS DU TAGE / THE LOVERS OF LISBON 3:45
Director Verneuil was at his best with sexy stars—and in LES AMANTS he is only too happy to let Françoise Arnoul steam up the screen as a mysterious widow who may or not be a murderess.
She's well-teamed with Daniel Gélin, in John Garfield mode as a man exiled to Lisbon by the haunted memories of a crime of passion, who finds himself in over his head once a relentless, smirking London investigator (played by Trevor Howard) turns up trailing the sexy Arnoul.
